A New Look for Pin Oak Dance

Upon the arrival of our new dance teacher, Ms. Reilly,  Pin Oak Dance has recently gotten a new look. Our formerly known dance team “Pegasus” is now “The Pin Oak Company and Crew”, a team of dancers that will represent Pin Oak not only during pep rallies and the homecoming games, but also in dance competitions around Houston. I’ve recently interviewed the captains of the Company, Karli Fisher and Megan Gutierrez, to get the scoop on what’s to come this year for our Company dancers.

According to Karli, competition season for the girls is January through March. The team will be competing at high schools throughout Houston, including New Caney High School, Cy Woods High School, and Woodlands College Park High School. During these competitions, Company will be competing against one of Pin Oak’s main rivals, Lanier Middle School. “I’m not really nervous,” Megan said. “I’m just trying to focus on what we can do best and what we can work on.”

Karli also added, “The team is very committed this year, so I’m excited to see how we do.”

Along with the competitions, the team will be dancing at the homecoming pep rally and game. The girls will be performing a jazz/funk and hip hop dance at the pep rally and a pom dance at the game. The team is strong in many styles of dance, including lyrical, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop.

When asked if the team got along both on and off the dance floor, the captains gleefully replied yes. “Everyone is friends. We’re all like one big happy family. We’re the same on and off the dance floor – it’s great.” Megan responded.

“We’re all very connected,” said Karli, “and every day we’re working on becoming even more connected.”

Both captains are proud of their team and what they’ll be performing this year. “I’m very excited!” Megan told me when I asked her how she felt about the upcoming year. The team is confident in what they’ve prepared for the year. Our girls are ready to take on the world… well, the dance one at least!
