Mrs. Graves has been the principal of Pin Oak Middle School since our 2015-16 school year, but do we really know her? I have recently had a chat with her about her life in and out of school. She answered with the following:
Q: Where did you go to college?
A: “[I] went to the University of Houston for undergrad and master’s [degree].”
Q: What do you like to do when you aren’t at school?
A: “I like to go outside and be in nature and do things like hiking.”
Q: Do you have a favorite quote?
A:“I don’t have a favorite quote, but I love fortune cookies. They are usually true for me. Before I got the job at Pin Oak, I got a fortune that said, ‘There will be a breakthrough in your career.”
Q: Was there someone who influenced you to start teaching?
A: “Yes, my brother struggled with school, so I wanted to help him.”
Q: What schools have you taught at?
A: “I have taught at POE as a Reading Specialist and a 1st grade teacher, the Magnet Dean at Pin Oak, the Principal at Roberts, and now the principal at Pin Oak.”
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: “No, I don’t have any at the moment, but I used to have cats, dogs, finches, and walking sticks in the classroom.”
Q: What’s your favorite part about teaching?
A: “My favorite part about teaching is when the kids put all the puzzle pieces together and finally get it.”
Q: Who inspires you on a day to day basis?
A: “The kids at Pin Oak inspire me, they are so enthusiastic about learning, and it just warms my heart!”
