Ms. Joyce Ballard returned to Pin Oak in 2015 as the C house principal, but did you know that she taught here before for 8 years? She was an English teacher to sixth graders in B house before coming back as a house principal. There is a lot we don’t know about her, so that’s why I’m here to help.
Ms. Ballard attended Texas State University for her bachelor’s degree and the University of Texas for her master’s degree. Once she finished college, she went on to teach at multiple schools including a small school in Ohio, Lovett Elementary School, and Roberts Elementary.
Her favorite part about teaching is taking advantage of all her opportunities with students and seeing what they can accomplish when they work together. She began wanting to teach when she was in elementary school. In fact, once in second grade she tried to become the “Teacher for the Day”.
Ms. Ballard may spend much of her time at school, but she loves doing other activities in her spare time. Some days she reads, while others she goes to the movies or out to eat. She’s bright individual who also likes to have fun.
When asked who influenced her, she said it’s the teachers that make an effort to get to know the students and care about what the students think. When asked for advice for kids at Pin Oak she said not be afraid to try new things and take advantage of all opportunities given to you.
