Behind the POMS Poms

By Lauren Holcomb

As we all know, Pin Oak has a wonderful team of cheerleaders that cheer on our fellow chargers at sporting events. The girls are role models to many students, and they are a very great representation of Pin Oak. We’ve all seen them around the building in their jackets, bows, and uniforms, but behind all the glitz and frills, what are the girls really like?

How well do they all get along? They cheer at games and practice stunts together almost every day, so they do spend time with each other quite a bit. When asked, Team Captain Anna Bernal said, “The team gets along pretty well. We typically have a positive vibe during practice and at games.”

While dancing and stunting the night away is exciting and fun, the girls said their favorite part about being a cheerleader is acting as leaders for students to follow. They love being positive role models for the school and sprinkling positivity in everything they do.

Each Captain agreed that their favorite sport to cheer at is 8th Grade Football. Co-Captain Trinitee McDonald said, “We feed off of the energy.”

Homecoming week is rapidly approaching, and the girls could not be more pumped! “I’m really excited!” Captain Sophia Haskin exclaimed. Co-Captain Sydnee Smith said that the girls are preparing a dance routine and adding in a few stunts, and she thinks the pep rally will be a fun way to help bring the team together. Get excited, Chargers!

Our Pin Oak Cheerleaders have kicked off the semester with a great start! All the girls are overjoyed for the new year of cheers and fun awaiting. Stay on the lookout for the squad’s new tricks, flips, and pizazz to come!
