Although you may have several friends here in the Pin Oak choir, you probably aren’t very aware of what takes place in this exciting elective. For instance, last year the seventh and eighth grade choir members took a trip to New York City in late May. There, they participated in many activities such as seeing Broadway shows, sightseeing, shopping, and even performing on the Intrepid Battleship. This year, they will be visiting Disney World at the end of the year and attending a workshop there. But the choir department does have another fun-filled event in store, and it’s just around the corner; their “Voices of Broadway” concert is October 19th. At this concert, Advanced 8th Grade Girls, Advanced 7th Grade Girls, Mixed, and 6th Grade choirs will be singing and dancing along to your favorite show-tunes. Songs include hit music from award-winning musicals such as “One” from A Chorus Line, “Popular” from Wicked, and “Born to Hand Jive” from Grease.
Mrs. Moritz is the head of the POMS choir department and single-handedly teaches all five choirs and the keyboard class elective. “The Pin Oak Choirs will perform music from different musicals at the Voices of Broadway concert,” Mrs. Moritz said. It will take place on October 19th in the MPR at 6 p.m.
“Each choir performs two different numbers from different musicals. The students sing and dance, sporting costumes from the time period of the musical,” she continued. “The evening is brought to a close as all the choirs perform a number together.”
Come and enjoy an evening of song and dance. You will recognize some of the songs and you will be delighted with the new ones. Pin Oak has been entertaining audiences with this concert for ten years. Make sure you get here early to get a seat!
