The Pin Oak girls’ soccer team is made up of around twenty 7th and 8th graders. Tryouts were held in December and were “a ball of nerves for both coaches and athletes,” according to Coach Tamez. “There were a lot of nervous and timid girls and some quit mid-way into their tryouts. I had all the girls from the team last year tryout as well. In tryouts, we had nearly 60 players, and I had help from Mr. Franco and Coach Tamez. This year I had so many girls with lots of talent, so I was not able to keep all the girls from last year, and it broke my heart when I cut them. We had many girls who tried out last year and tried again this year, but very few made it,” Coach Caraballo explained.

During the season, which is from mid-January to early April, practices take place Monday and Wednesday, and games are on Thursday. Coach Tamez said, “I enjoy coaching the team because of the atmosphere: the energy the girls give off to one another. I enjoy being part of a team that knows how to have fun and shows respect to one another on and off the field.”
