Batter up! The softball team is back, and ready to dominate the new year. With new and old players, the team is ready to compete and beat other HISD schools. The softball team started practice on January 9th after the three day tryouts. The drafted players showed talent in batting, fielding, and/or pitching or catching. This year the team has 16 players made up of four 8th graders, three 7th graders, and nine 6th graders.

This year’s softball team, flush with new players, is ready to demolish the competition. The players are working on their batting and bunting to start off the season. In addition, the team is also doing speed and coordination drills. Second year player Camille Walker said, “I think the team is very good and with some more practice we will be able to win our upcoming games.” The softball team has their first game on February 7th against the Pilgrim Middle School.   By the end of the year, the softball team hopes to be in the top 3 of all HISD middle schools.

The softball team is also hoping to get new uniforms and, new this season, sweatpants! Coach Meyer is excited for the changes and is ready for the new season. “Watch out, we’re coming for you!”
