No fear, all cheer! It’s that time of the year – cheer tryouts! Tryouts will take place on Thursday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m in the Gym.

This week on Monday through Wednesday (April 17-19) from 3:30 – 5:30 in the gym, Bellaire High School cheerleaders will teach applicants a cheer, chant, and dance for tryouts on Thursday. For these clinic days, applicants should wear comfortable, school-appropriate shorts and a t-shirt or tank top. Mock tryouts will be held on this Wednesday (April 19).

On Thursday, official tryouts will take place. Hopefuls will perform for a panel of three independent judges. Scores of the performance will be decided upon the following categories: crowd appeal, projection (energy, enthusiasm, confidence), dance, motions, jumps, and tumbling. The number of applicants that will make the team is not a set number and will be based off of the natural break in scores. For tryouts, applicants must wear dark colored shorts (black or navy) and a plain white t-shirt or tank top. Hair should be pulled back, and jewelry or fake nails should not be worn. Applicants are not allowed to wear any cheerleading or dance attire to the clinic or tryouts.

On Friday, all applicants should report to the library at 3:25 p.m. to receive a letter, stating whether they made the team. Letters are not permitted to be opened on school campus. Best of luck to all hopeful cheer applicants!
