KIMBERLY WILLIS HOLT VISITS POMS
By Sarah E. Fernandez
Kimberly Willis Holt is an author from Pensacola, Florida. Born into a military family, she moved often. This is one of the many things that inspired her while writing, although what inspired her to become an author was the support/motivation from her friends and family. Her best friend’s support in school, led her to become a popular author.
At the book presentation, she gave many different ways of being inspired to write. One way is the little things, “anything that happens to you even, if it takes a moment, can inspire you to write a book.” The book My Louisiana Sky was inspired by “the places I [she] care[s] about.” Another way is “reading something and that will inspire stories.” Ms. Holt’s new book “Blooming at the Texas Sunrise Motel,” is inspired by her garden. According the her the book, the Secret Garden has some parallels with her new book. As she was writing, she thought about how the characters feel and why they might be jealous.
Out of the twenty books she has written, her favorite is the Water Seeker. Her favorite cover is “Blooming at the Texas Sunrise Motel.” All the sixth graders certainly enjoyed her presentation. Kimberly Willis Holt is an extremely skilled author.
