INTRO TO THE PIN OAK PRESS

INTRO TO THE PIN OAK PRESS

By: Caitlin Rangel

Pin Oak Press is Pin Oak’s first ever newspaper and was established in 2016. The roles in Pin Oak Press are Editor in Chief, copy editor, writers, comics, publicity team, website team, layout team, and photographers.

The process starts with coming up with article ideas for the coming issue. Then every press member is assigned an article, even the editors. This means that every press member has two jobs: writing and helping out with one of the other roles in the press.

Our copy editors are Maria Scherer and Amelia Choi. One of our copy editor first reads the articles first. The copy editor also checks to see if the information written is correct and give constructive criticism to the writer.

Then our Editor in Chief, India Helzer, will check it to see if it has the requirements that an article should have. After the editor reads it Ms. Hewett will check it.

The layout team then has to put  the  articles  into the newspaper layout, which takes about 3 class periods. After the layout is done, it is sent it to print and put on the racks around the school. As soon as the current issue is finished (and even before for some press members), our press members start brainstorming for the next issue, and we start again….
