SWIM TEAM: HARDER THAN YOU THINK

SWIM TEAM: HARDER THAN YOU THINK

On November 6th and 8th, 72 Pin Oak students went to Pershing to tryout for the swim team. 35 girls and 20 boys made the team. They immediately started practice that Thursday. Their first swim meet was last weekend on December 9th at Lamar High School.

Swimming is a very difficult because it is both a mental and physical sport. You must have the mental strength to keep up the speed in a race. You will want to quit when times get hard, but you must put mind over matter.

Swimmers eat A LOT. The average male consumes 2,500 calories and the average female consumes 2,000 calories per day. The average football player consumes 3,800 calories. That is so much, right? Well, guess how many calories the average swimmer consumes per day? 10,000!!! Swimmers love carbohydrates such as pasta and bread. Almost everything swimmers eat, they burn off in the pool.

Swimming is a very difficult sport. There is a saying “swimmers do more kicks than a soccer player, more flips than a cheerleader, more sets than a volleyball player and more yards than a football player.” All of that is true.
