On Tuesday, January 30th, 2018, President Donald Trump addressed the State Of the Union live. President Trump talked about key moments in the past year as well as how we are doing as a country. In the speech, Trump mentioned the many disasters that had happened during the year, including the Las Vegas shooting, Hurricane Harvey, and gang activity. In the speech, the President also talked about the many accomplishments made during this first year of presidency.

In the speech, Trump said,“Let’s begin tonight by recognizing that the State of our Union is strong because our people are strong. And together we are building a safe, strong and proud America. Since the election, we have created 2.4 million new jobs, including … 200,000 new jobs in manufacturing alone.” In the speech, Trump stated that gang violence in our country is growing and becoming  nationwide problem. In the USA alone, there are over 33,000 gangs with over one million existing members.

President Trump gave a welcome to many families and volunteers invited to the speech that had gone under either good or bad times for the past year. The President also mentioned the many sad moments that happened through the year, such as the hurricanes and the many shootings occurring through the year.

President Trump mentioned the good news as well by saying, “Unemployment claims have hit a 45-year low. African-American unemployment stands at the lowest rate ever recorded, and Hispanic-American unemployment has also reached the lowest levels in history.” Trump also gave a thanks to people and families who have contributed to our country this year.
