STUDENTS AND FACULTY REACT TO NEW SCHEDULE

By: Harrison Dunlap

In the hallways of Pin Oak, many students ask why the schedule change happened. Last year, HISD announced standardized school start and end times. The new start times are 8:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. for middle schools and high schools, and 7:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. for elementary students. The new times allow HISD to create a new bus system, the goal being to have fewer bus stops in order to get students to their schools on time respectfully. This system has affected students in many ways: some can no longer take the bus; some students are dropped off almost an hour before school starts.

While some students don’t know what to make of the new times, others are being productive. Hayden Musser, a 7A student, stated “I don’t like the new bus system because I can no longer take the bus but, I do like the time change. It has helped me get more sleep than last year.” Grant Dionne, another student, said, “I really have no preference at all.” He has been affected however, stating, “Well, I waited for the bus 1 hour and ½ last week.” The C House principal, Ms. Ballard, said that it was too early to judge the effects but she said, “the bus system has recently affected a lot of students.”
