CHILDREN AT RISK COMES TO PIN OAK

By: Shaan Desai and Saatvik Kumar

On February 13th, the organization Children at Risk came to Pin Oak with many other health officials to talk about the importance of vaccinating children and the misleading information being spread by “anti-vaxxers.” This press conference was covered by FOX 26, ABC, and NBC news, to name a few. The Houston President of Children at Risk, Dr. Robert Sanborn, was the main speaker. He was followed by other officials such as Dr. Umair Shah and Professor Peter Hotez. The main purpose of the talk was to spread awareness about the lies being spread by “anti-vaxxers.” Many statistics were given, particularly about recent outbreaks of measles, which were likely caused because of vaccines not being given to children. One of the topics also discussed was medical reasons that exempted certain people from vaccinations. In order for them to be protected from diseases like measles and influenza, other people around them have to be vaccinated.

Overall, the talk was mostly about the importance of vaccinating children and the misleading “anti-vaxxer” information. For more information, you can visit childrenatrisk.org, immunizeusa.org, or you can check back for more information on vaccinations from at pinoakpress.org.
