  1. A cockroach can live for a week without its head. This is because they breathe through little holes on their body and are not dependent on their head to breathe. The reason they die because their head was ripped off is because without a mouth they can’t eat, so they starve and dehydrate.
  2. Roaches can hold their breath for forty minutes, and can survive being submerged in water for thirty minutes. Maybe you should think twice before flushing them down the toilet next time.
  3. Roaches can run up to three miles an hour, which might not seem like a lot, but means they can spread germs and bacteria very quickly throughout a home.
  4. A one day old baby cockroach can run as fast as it’s parents, but it’s much smaller.
  5. There are more than four thousand species of cockroaches world wide.
  6. Cockroaches can survive for a month without food, but only a week without water.
  7. Cockroaches can survive ten times more radiation than a human.
  8. The cockroach species is currently estimated to be over two hundred million years old.
  9. Some types of roaches can fly, and other use their wings to stabilize jumps.
  10. Despite there being thousands of roach species, only about thirty are considered pests. So, if all of them were as bad as the thirty we’re used to, things could be a lot worse from the perspective of someone who doesn’t want roaches eating their food and spreading germs around their house or apartment.
