“All legends fall in the making/ Sorry truth, dying young, demon youth/ What’s the 27 Club?/ We ain’t making it past 21”- Juice WRLD, Legends.
In the wake of rapper Jarad Anthony Higgins, better known as Juice WRLD’s death, the trend of young rising stars dying has become common in the public eye. Such famous names as Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., and Nipsey Hussle all died too young, and a new generation of rappers seems to be following suit. On December 8 of this year, Juice WRLD died of a seizure at Chicago’s Midway airport. On September 7, 2018, Mac Miller perished because of overdosage. On June 18 of 2018, rising star XXXTentacion was assassinated. On November 15, 2017, Lil Peep overdosed on Fentanyl and Xanax. Juice WRLD, XXXTentacion, and Lil Peep all died at or before 21 years old. B.I.G. was only 24, Tupac was 25, and Mac Miller was 26 when they all died. Nipsey was 33.
Juice WRLD’s cause of death was likely a seizure, but no one knows what caused the seizure. Authorities say drugs and codeine cough syrup were found on his private plane, and a friend says he popped “unknown pills” prior to his death. Juice WRLD has admitted to abusing lean, a mixture of codeine cough syrup, jolly ranchers, and sprite, as well as prescription drugs like Percocet. Others speculate the death was caused by withdrawal from Benzodiazepines, a common anxiety medicine.
Multiple celebrities and other rappers, such as Lil Nas X and Ski Mask the Slump God, have tweeted and commented on Juice WRLD’s passing. While the world mourns, experts will continue to investigate the causes of his death. Hopefully, Juice WRLD’s death will help discourage the use of dangerous drugs and other addictive substances, so that future deaths of young rising stars may be prevented.
